Dear Colleagues,

Good Morning!

Researcher George Barna has concluded that the greatest need today in the body of Christ is for capable, godly leaders. The Book of Proverbs contrasts good and bad leaders:

good leaders are:

  • Diligent“Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.” (Pro. 12:24) (See Pro. 10:4)
  • Just“By justice a king gives a country stability,  but one who is greedy for bribes tears it down.”  (Pro.  29:4)  (See Pro. 16:10; 29:14)
  • Wise“By [wisdom] kings reign and rulers make laws that are just.” (Pro. 8:15)  (See Pro. 17:2)
  • Honest“Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth.”    (Pro. 16:13)  (See Pro. 16:12)
  • Blessed with many followers“A large population is a king’s glory, but without subjects a prince is ruined.”  (Pro. 14:28)
  • Discerning – “When a king sits on his throne to judge, he winnows out all evil with his eyes.” (Pro. 20:8)  (See Pro. 28:26)
  • Loving and faithful“Love and faithfulness keep a king safe; through love his throne is made secure.” (Pro. 20:28)
  • Inquisitive – “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter;  to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” (Pro. 25:2)
  • Established through righteousness“Kings detest wrong doing, for a throne is established through righteousness.” (Pro. 16:12)  (See Pro. 25:5)
  • Temperate – “It is not for kings…to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer.” (Pro. 31:4)

 Bad  leaders are:

  • Abusive in their treatment of underlings“Like a roaring lion or a charging bear is a wicked man ruling over a helpless people…when the wicked rule, the people groan.”  (Prov. 28:15; 29:2b)
  • Capable of fostering perversity among their subordinates “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; if a ruler listens to lies,  all his officials become wicked.”  (Prov. 29:12)
  • Lacking in sound judgment“A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment…”  (Prov. 28:16a)

QUESTIONHow do you stack up as a leader?

My prayer is that you are having a great week!
