ARE YOU FOLLOWING JESUS CHRIST FOR THE RIGHT REASONS?

Good Morning!

If your motives in pursuing the Master are for anything  less than a desire for intimacy with Him, you are sadly on the wrong track:

“Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.  He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.”  (Jn. 6:53, 54)

It is a mystery as to exactly what Jesus meant here. At the very least He conveyed the idea of total involvement with Him at the most intimate level.

A little steep?  He meant it that way:  As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were no longer walking with Him.”  (Jn. 6:66)

The Gospels communicate at least four wrong reasons as to why people followed Jesus:

#1  Curiosity over His miracles
“And a great multitude was following Him, because they were seeing  the signs which He was performing on those who were sick.”  (Jn. 6:2)  (Also:Lk. 9:9;23:8; Jn. 2:23 – 25)

#2  The Material benefits
“Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me…because you ate of the loaves, and were filled.”  (Jn. 6:26)

#3  The Political benefits
“Jesus therefore perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by  force, to make Him king, withdrew…”  (Jn. 6:15a) (Also: Lk. 24:21)

#4  Status
“Grant that we may sit in your glory, one on Your right, and one on Your left.”  (Mk. 10:37)  (Also Mk. 9:31 – 37)

We need to search our hearts as to why we profess allegiance to Him.  If our motives are ulterior, we solicit His  rejection:

Jesus…was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men….for He Himself knew what was in man.”  (Jn. 2:24, 25)

GOD HELPS THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN DESPERATE NEED:+

Good Morning!

A sinking ship“Master, we are perishing!”

A naked maniac“And seeing Jesus, he cried out with a loud voice…”

A dying daughter – The father “fell at Jesus’ feet and began to entreat Him…”

A bleeding womanShe “came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak…”

All helpless — and in grave need of the Master’s touch.

“Man’s extremity becomes God’s opportunity

The Gospels are silent however, about any dramatic  life changes among the faceless masses who seemed to view Jesus simply as a nice idea. To them, observing and being around Christ was something like a spectator sport.  “Watch but don’t get too involved.”

By contrast, Christ extended His  compassion to those souls fortunate enough to have run out of options —  people who were at the end of their rope.

So:

  • The ship made it to shore.
  • The maniac found healing and peace in Christ.
  • The dying daughter was restored to full health.
  • The woman’s bleeding was stopped.

Today, if you are in serious need of the Master’s healing or helping hand, understand that He awaits your cry for help.  By faith appropriate Him now.

My prayer is that you are having a great week!

WANT TO RUN A BIBLICALLY BASED BUSINESS WITH CHRISTIAN VALUES?

Good Morning!

Here’s “Jack’s Service Company’s” statement of values+:

  1. Trustworthy With Integrity – We will be reliable, dependable, and can be counted on to keep promises. We will do what we say we will do within the promised time frame. (I Sam. 2:3)++
  2. Worth of the Individual – We will practice the ‘Golden Rule’ in decision-making. We will respect human life, dignity and rights of each including health, safety and work environment. We are in business for ‘people’ (employees, customers, vendors), not for our own wealth, power, prestige or ego. (Lk. 15: 1-7; Matt. 7:12)
  3. Family & Stability in Relationships – The family is the foundation unit of every society. We will respect women as wives, men as husbands, and singles. The family has a higher priority than the firm and its profitability; therefore, we will seek to build it up, not tear it down. (Gal. 6:1-9)
  4. Honest & Truthful Communication – We will strive to be genuine, open and above board in all relationships. We will honestly and accurately report the facts. (Col. 3:8, 9)
  5. Responsibility of the Individual As Part of the Team – Each of us will accept individual accountability for how we carry out our responsibilities. We will aim to motivate each other by praise rather than criticism to create an atmosphere of productivity and freedom to admit individual mistakes in order to accomplish team goals. (Eph. 4:28-32)
  6. Balance of Work/Rest – Vacations and breaks will be encouraged so that proper rest, recreation, and reflection will maximize long-term productivity and effectiveness. We believe in working hard, but not necessarily in working unproductive long hours just for the sake of appearance. (Mk. 6:31; I Thess. 4:11, 12)
  7. Rewarding Productivity – We will seek to reward industriousness, innovation, initiative, prudence, and discipline. Our focus is to develop our full potential, the result of which is reaping rewards of our labor. (Ecc. 5:18, 19; 1 Tim. 5:18, 19)
  8. Everyone is Accountable to Authority – Any enterprise must have structure and organization. Every person is accountable to a higher authority. ( I Pet. 2:13-18)
  9. Servant Leaders – Effective leaders will be servants who have attracted a following because of their passion, vision, integrity, and love for people. We will make every effort to develop this kind of leader. (Mk. 10: 43-45)
  10. Stewardship – We will strive to use wisely and prudently the resources with which we have been entrusted.” (I Cor. 4:2)

FEAR AND ANXIETY

Good Morning!

FEAR and ANXIETY are tormenting and crippling emotions that can plague the soul to its core. In  Isaiah 41:10 – 16, God assures  us of hope:

If you feel ALONE or ABANDONED – God promises you His presence:

“Do not fear, for I am with you”  (vs. 10)

“Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.”  (vs. 10)

If you feel WEAK or HELPLESS – God promises you His strength:

“I will strengthen you.”  (vs. 10)

“I will uphold you.”  (vs. 13)

“I will help you.” (vs. 10, 13, 14)

If you feel VULNERABLE – God promises you His protection:

Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored; those who contend with you will be as nothing, and will  perish. You will seek those who quarrel with  you, but will not find them, those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent.”  (vs. 11, 12)

If you feel ILL-EQUIPPED – God promises to make you into His powerful instrument:

“Behold, I have made you a new sharp threshing sledge with double edges: You will thresh the mountains, and pulverize them, and will make the hills like chaff. You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away, and the storm will scatter them…”  (vs. 15, 16a)

Receive His promises today so that instead of being hobbled by fear and anxiety, you will:

Rejoice in the Lord” and  (vs. 16)

Glory in the Holy One” (vs. 16)

The danger in seeking relief from FEAR and ANXIETY however, is our tendency to seek the peace itself,  rather than the Lord Jesus, the source of peace:

He Himself is our peace”  (Eph. 2:14a)

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you…let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”  (Jn. 14:27)

Seek Him. Wait upon Him. Cast your burdens upon Him — and inexplicably, your fear and anxiety will dissipate. You will then find yourself alone with the Savior, the Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6).

My prayer is that you are having a great week!
