Jesus told us to “Go, MAKE DISCIPLES”

Good Morning!

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and MAKE DISCIPLES of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  (Matt. 28:18 – 20)

The kind of DISCIPLES Jesus charged us to develop have the following characteristics:

  •     They  have forsaken all to follow Christ:

“In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.”  (Lk. 14:26 – 33)

  •    They are  serious adherents of God’s word:

“…Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (Jn. 8:31, 32)

  •   They love others unconditionally and sacrifically as Christ loves us:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  (Jn. 13:34, 35)

  •    They are growing in Christ likeness:

“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” (Lk. 6:40; Matt. 11:29)

  •      They bear much, lasting fruit:

“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples…  You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last…” (Jn. 15:8, 16)

Oh…I almost forgot:  A law of life is that you produce after your own kind.  So to disciple others, you must first be a disciple.  Hmm…

My prayer is that you are having a great week!

ON MAKING DISCIPLES

Good Morning!

Jesus’ final command to His disciples was “Go, MAKE DISCIPLES.”  (Matt. 28:18 – 20).

Tell me, are you obeying Christ’s command to MAKE DISCIPLES?

If your answer is, “I’m very busy in Christian activity”, you will have some serious answering to do at the Judgment Seat of Christ  (II Cor. 5:9 – 11).

Activity is no substitute for productivity. Productivity is no substitute for re-productivity.”

Christ MADE DISCIPLES, who in turn were commanded to MAKE DISCIPLES, who in turn were to MAKE DISCIPLES: Spiritual reproduction.   He told us to do exactly the same:

“Go therefore and MAKE DISCIPLES of all nations…teaching them (your disciples) to observe all that I have commanded you (part of which is the making of disciples)…”  (Matt. 28:19, 20)

 Spiritual multiplication.

Paul put it this way, “And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”  (II Tim. 2:2):

Paul discipled Timothy, who in turn was to disciple  faithful men, who in turn were to teach others, who were to also teach othersSpiritual multiplication.  Spiritual re-production:  MAKING DISCIPLES.

Tell me, are you MAKING DISCIPLES?   If not, why not?

When God evaluates us for the substance of our lives, the question will be asked, “Did you lay the foundation of Christ in people’s lives?”   That is the gold, silver, and precious stone that will stand the test of fire.  It is called MAKING DISCIPLES.  Everything else will be burned as dross  (I Cor. 3:10 – 15).

Tell me, are you MAKING DISCIPLES?  Or are you just busy in Christian activity?

My prayer is that you are having a great week!

“WE ARE AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST” (II Cor. 5:20)

Good Morning!

Are you viewed by your peers, competitors, family members, and neighbors as Christ’s Ambassador…or just as some kind of religious lackey?

AN AMBASSADOR:

  • IS A DIPLOMATIC AGENT OF THE HIGHEST RANK, APPOINTED TO REPRESENT HIS GOVERNMENT TO THAT OF ANOTHER

How are you doing in representing the Kingdom of God  to your alien world?

“We Christians  have the unmistakable ‘scent’  of Christ, discernible alike to those who are being saved and to those who are heading for death.  To the latter it seems like the deathly smell of doom, to the former it has the refreshing fragrance of life itself.”  (II Cor. 2:15, 16, Phillips Translation)

  •  SPEAKS ON BEHALF OF THE SOVEREIGN FROM WHOM HE HAS RECEIVED HIS COMMISSION IN FAITHFULLY AND PRECISELY PROCLAIMING THE MESSAGE ENTRUSTED TO HIM

How are  you doing in faithfully and precisely delivering the message entrusted to you by your Sovereign?

“Never lose your sense of urgency, in season or out of season. Prove, correct, and encourage, using the utmost patience in your teaching.”  (II Tim. 4:2, Phillips Translation)

  •   IS AN ALIEN IN A FOREIGN LAND WHO IS WILLING TO ENDURE REJECTION AND SUFFERING IN THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF HIS MISSION

How are you doing in  responding to the rejection and suffering imposed on you by your lost friends?  Paul, while incarcerated as Christ’s ambassador replied in this fashion:

“… Pray for me, that utterance may be given me…to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains.”  (Eph. 6:20)

Ambassadorship is a high and noble calling.   God help us to be faithful to that calling!

My prayer is that you are having a great week!

SCRIPTURE MEMORY

Good Morning!

IDEA                                                              ASSOCIATION

Scripture Memory                                           Castor Oil

Scripture Memory                                           Jogging barefoot up Mt. McKinley

with 100 rocks in your back pack

Scripture Memory                                           Flossing your teeth

There is no command in Scripture to memorize God’s word.  But it is clear that memorization furnishes us with:

  •  Tools for effective service“The Scriptures are the comprehensive equipment of the man of God, and fit him fully for all branches of his work.” (II Tim. 3:17, Phillips)  (Ever hear someone say, “Well, somewhere in the Bible it says…
  •  Victory over temptation:  When faced with Satan’s on slants, Christ immediately and effectively quotes Scripture:  “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God’…Then the devil left Him…”  (Matt. 4:4,7,10,11)
  • Obedience to God, and success in life“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.”  (Jos. 1:8) +

Living with Christ in a victorious fashion without gaining command of the Scriptures is like:

Typing with arthritic feet
with wool socks on
upside down,
blindfolded
60 feet underwater – in ice cold sewage
while choking on a clogged air hose…that leaks
as someone shoots at you with a poisonous spear gun

So… what are you waiting for?  get going on your scripture memory!
My prayer is that you are having a great week!
